Give me four feet of snow, give me 20 below zero, give me 115 degree heat, but the wind wears me down.
I parked at the southern end of the trail at 6th Street and worked my way south on Hwy 71 in the morning while the wind was still moderate. I rode a few miles and changed directions before things had a chance to become tiresome; that was the plan today, keep changing directions so that I never had the wind for very long at one time. That seemed to work.
A sign at the top of the road to Wilson Lake said, "Road Closed .5 miles," so, one would think it's not worth a pedal down. But, one never knows what one might find. A few interesting shots from an old building and the debris around.
This looks as if it's a close-up of a bike chain. It is a close up, but the links are actually about 4x as big as a bike chains.
On the trail, I recognized Sally, who was instrumental in getting Dorothy Mangold into bike riding. Sally is still going strong at 80.

Rather than head north for about 8 miles and then turn south into the wind for 8 miles, I rode about 2-3 miles north and then flipped direction so that I wouldn't have so much of the wind in one stretch. Weather.com said that the wind was gusting up to 27mph but it never seemed that strong on the trail, thank goodness.
I mentioned to Colene, one of my very faithful blog followers who lives in Iowa, that I would have loved to have gotten a picture of her holding up the Happy Birthday sign for Will. How wonderful that she obliged me (and Will) with the following picture today.
Thanks, Colene!
