9 November 2011 Ride

A good day at Community Meals followed by a good day of riding.  Strange to ride in the sun after the day of riding in the rain yesterday.

I came across a quote from Marcel Proust a couple of weeks ago and today seemed as good as any to finally use it.

"The only true voyage of discovery would not be to visit strange lands but to behold the universe through the eyes of another."

The picture below of the cable stretched across the road from utility pole to utility pole may not be viewed from the eyes of another but I when I saw it against the blue sky there was an elegant simplicity that really struck me.

We normally wouldn't give such a sight a second thought (and I have passed beneath this cable a countless number of times) but today when I saw it I thought of how awe struck we would be if this had been the creation of, say, a spider or moth.

Speaking of viewing through the eyes of another...

...the aliens have landed.  Resistance is futile.

And, just down the road, this is all they left.

The remainder of my ride was a blur and all I know is that I suddenly found myself back at the truck on Habberton Rd.  Two hours and some 20 more miles had passed.  Abduction?  You be the judge.  Whatever went on, a good time was had by all.

Today's Ride:  2hrs 59mins  34.08 miles.  55°   Miles YTD:  8,631.48

Number of miles per day needed to reach 10,000 miles by the end of the year:  26.32
