18 August 2011 Ride: Night and Day

A bit more and better sleep but still not enough.  Up by 4:20, out on the bike by 5:00AM.  A beautiful morning with lightening flashing way off in the distance.  Most of the lightening was reflective flashes in the clouds but, occasionally, some very vivid bolts of lightening that were so far off I couldn't even hear the thunder.

The sunrise keeps slipping further and further away.  And, with the clouds, dawn came very slowly.

The light in this picture is actually from a lightening flash and not the sun rising.

With time running out as I had to take Rachel in to school today, I headed home just after the official sunrise time.  But, not before getting just a smattering of rain drops.

The storming on all sides but quiet and peaceful where I was riding, reminded me of an incident when I was 13 and on a bike ride.  I'm cruising through my apartment complex when it begins to rain behind me.  I hear it approaching and in another moment its on me, but I'm not getting wet.  It's raining behind me and on both sides of me, then, all around me; but I'm in a dry pocket and still not getting wet.  It lasted about 5-10 seconds before the pocket collapsed.  I tried riding to see if I could catch up with the open air grotto but, alas, it was not to be found.

After getting some errands accomplished, I headed back out to get a few more miles in.  Such a difference, night and day.  It really does feel like two totally different worlds.

Today's Ride:  2hrs. 10mins.  27.09 miles.  AM ride: 73 degrees.  PM: 91 deg.  Miles YTD:  5,497.43
