It's been seven days since I finished the 24 hour ride. I went easy this past week, doing much smaller rides than I had been the weeks prior to the big event. During the week, I slowly increased the mileage each day, feeling as if the big ride was receding in the distance while at the same time the body was rejuvenating itself.
This morning, after a hectic day of cleaning and preparing a labor intensive meal, a long bike ride seemed to be in order to counter the tensions of the past couple of days. But, once out, a smaller ride seemed to be in order as I realized I was still quite weary not only from the 24er but the very busy week. Instead of the 40 miles I had intended to ride, a 10-15 mile ride would do just fine.
Off Hwy 45, I headed up Wyman road. At the top of one decent climb, is one of my favorite spots. A wide shoulder in the mountain, it sits like another Shangri La; a peacefulness envelopes the valley-like setting and rarely do I see any cars on this small stretch. At the top of the shoulder, the idea of a smaller ride was re-enforced when the front derailleur cable broke. Fortunately, with the front gear stuck on the small cog, getting home wouldn't be an issue.
But again, the morning was too beautiful to abandon and the smaller ride slowly stretched out into a 21 mile ride. Still, a relatively easy going day of semi-rest.
Today's Ride: 1hr 53mins. 21.12 miles. 65-72 degrees. Miles YTD: 6,335.06
