I have to smile as I recall Branton's face when he brought my bike back for a test ride. It had the look of, "you've been riding this?" As I said, riding day after day, deterioration sneaks up on one and it's as if I limped into the bike shop without realizing the scope of my disrepair.
With Carol still sleeping in the morning, I crept out and took a walk along a small, heavily wooded street just around the corner from our B&B.. Already it was a bit muggy but the dawn was still relatively cool and quiet. Figuring that the bike would be in the shop all day, I planned on riding the mountain bike when we got home.
Tucked between a gas meter and another yard sculpture in the shadows.
And then, making my way back into town.
Back home, on the mountain bike, I road down memory lane. When I first got the bike I used to take it on dirt paths all the time until the jolting finally became too much for my neck and shoulders. I went down a gravel road in our neighborhood that I used to frequent a few years back and I quickly found out why I gave it up.
I couldn't take too much of the mountain bike even on the paved road as my butt was not used to the seat. As it turned out, I had a message on my phone that my bike was ready and the message had been there since yesterday afternoon; alas, I didn't receive the message until this afternoon. The good news is that the bike is done and I can prepare for the 24 hour ride. Yes, I'm planning to do that starting Sunday around 5:00PM. More on that tomorrow.
Today's Ride: 68 mins. 12 miles. 93 degrees. Miles YTD: 5,959.94
