14 October 2011 Ride: The Green Llight

One might infer from all the miles I have been putting in this week that perhaps I'm seriously going after the 10,000 mile mark for the year.  One might be correct in that assumption.  However, this was not a decision I could make on my own as it would have a large impact on the family.

So, before we left for Panama, I sat down with Carol to discuss going for 10,000.  Even after explaining that to do so would take up a vast amount of my day she was still all for it, with one caveat: she still wanted to eat well.  I have spoiled my family with gourmet cooking and Carol works hard and looks forward to having a good meal.  I certainly could not blame her and I said my intention was to still cook good meals, though, I may rely on making casseroles more often that could carry us through another day or two.

Since we have been back from Panama, so far so good.  We've still eaten well and it's been great to have both Carol and Rachel ask me how many miles I completed after a ride.

An errand ride of sorts today.  Rachel drove in to school and she arranged to get a ride home with Carol.  I biked in, doing an errand on the way, retrieved the van and then ran a few more errands.  Normally, as the car drives, it's about 9 miles to the high school.  A usual direct indirect bike route is about 15 miles.  I managed to turn the ride into a 41 mile ride, a few miles above the minimum daily average for 10,000.

Another beautiful day.  Scattered high cirrus clouds against a blue background.  When I left in the morning, the clouds seemed to be mostly made up of remnants of contrails.  I was definitely more tired than yesterday and I especially felt the affect going up hills.

And, sometimes I get very fortunate and the subject, the lighting and the focus all are in sync to provide a great shot.  I took about 10 different shots hoping to get a good one.

Today's Ride:  3hrs. 34mins.  41.56 miles.  67°-74°   Miles YTD:  7,295.56

Number of miles per day needed to reach 10,000 miles by the end of the year: 34.67
