Rachel had a cross country meet up in Rogers this afternoon, so my plan was to leave in the morning and find a very circuitous route from here to there. Rogers is normally about 25 north of us by car. I managed to turn it into an 85 mile adventure, going as far south and west as Farmington and then weaving my way back north.
On the trail, I passed Martin, who has been riding regularly. I turned around, caught up with him and we rode for a bit together.
The legs felt good this morning and the gusty winds didn't dampen my spirits. It was another beautiful morning that started off by seeing a very fast and streaking meteorite just as I was looking up in the sky on my morning walk. The dancing leaves in the wind felt as if they were an extension of those shooting stars; fleeting images that came and went very quickly and were not around long enough to capture on film.
My energy and spirits were still good when I passed the chair above. But, by the time I passed the car below, about 2 - 2 1/2 hours into the ride, I was already feeling my energy greatly sagging. It didn't help that I was moving south at that point, directly into the wind which was gusting up to 30mph. I was hoping to avoid traveling south but, trying to get in so many miles, it was unavoidable.
This definitely wasn't an easy ride. I had to remind myself that that is what makes reaching 10,000 miles such a challenge; if every ride was a piece of cake, what would be the big deal?
Not to far from the end of the ride, I came across this Billy Goat. He seemed eager to make contact and I fed him some grass. However, he didn't seem to take to kindly to me rubbing his head as he started forcefully butting the fence with the top of his head. Well, no more grass for you, big boy.
Today's Ride: 7hrs 22mins. 85.61 miles. 62°-74° 20 - 30 mph winds. Miles YTD: 7,952.04
Number of miles per day needed to reach 10,000 miles by the end of the year: 30.57
