21 October 2011 Ride: Cruise Control

I had the luxury of letting the day warm up before getting on the bike.  I must have been in a nesting mood as I spent the morning doing a thorough cleaning of the kitchen, moving objects that line the wall to get crumbs that might be hiding, wiping down the backsplash, cleaning the stove top and leaving the kitchen in a state where I didn't want anyone to prepare anything so that the thorough cleaning could be enjoyed for more than a few hours.  Alas, the purity has already been defiled; but, of course, what's the purpose of a kitchen!

Knowing that I planned on doing a 100 miler tomorrow, I picked a relatively flat and easily traveled route.  Hwy 71 from Fayetteville down to Winslow fit the bill and with the wind coming from the south, I would have a tail wind on the return.

Old Hwy 71 Bridge, south of Greenland.

A beautiful autumn day that warmed up just right.  My spirits were good and energy felt high (must have been all that cleaning!).  I moved easily and enjoyably down the road.

The wind was calm enough to offer little resistance going down and picked up just enough to make going back feel as if I was the on the closest thing to cruise control one can get on a bike when on the straights.  I couldn't have asked for better conditions.

Keeping the post short today as I want to be sure to get plenty of down time for tomorrow's ride as well as be sure to have everything ready to go for the early start.

Today's Ride:  3hrs.  56mins.  50.36 miles.  62°-72°  Miles YTD:  7,697.01 (I should have ridden another 3 miles!)

Number of miles per day needed to reach 10,000 miles by the end of the year: 32.44
